For most of this season, the Kansas City Chiefs injury reports haven’t been overflowing. That seems to have changed this week for Andy Reid’s squad.
After the first practice in preparation for Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Redskins, the Chiefs listed 16 players on the injury report. Included are four players that were unable to practice.
Left tackle Branden Albert was among those missing practice with a knee injury he suffered in the loss to the Denver Broncos. Second-year reserve tackle Donald Stephenson filled in for Albert Sunday and would do the same again if he was unable to play against Washington.
Also sitting on the sidelines were starting tight end Anthony Fasano and linebacker Justin Houston. Fasano had already been dealing with a knee injury when a concussion knocked him out last weekend, while Houston continues to rehab from a dislocated elbow that will most certainly keep him about for a second straight week.
There was some good news among those that didn’t participate. Dexter McCluster wasn’t on the field with his teammates, but was instead welcoming a baby girl into the world. Expect to see the offensive weapon back at practice Thursday and ready to suit up Sunday.
Participating on a limited basis were defensive end Mike DeVito and safety Kendrick Lewis. Both played last week and are nursing knee injuries they should be able to fight through this weekend.
The majority of the injury report — 10 players — were able to practice fully. If they can all stay on track to suit up Sunday, the only real question marks will be Albert and Fasano.
